Located in the sunbelt of Monterey, the North Fremont Business District is conveniently situated between two state highways (Highways 1 and 218) and is in close proximity to the Monterey Peninsula Airport and Highway 68. it features over 85 diverse hotels/motels, shops, restaurants, and businesses.

The District consists of approximately 47.7 acres within the City of Monterey. It encompasses both sides of the 0.87 mile North Fremont Street from the eastern Monterey city limits at Canyon del Rey west to State Highway 1.

It includes an award-winning median bike lane for several blocks that will be extended in the near future, ultimately to reach the Recreation Trail and CSUMB.

It is surrounded by several great neighborhoods with many homes, condominiums, and apartments. More information is available from the Casanova/Oak Knoll Neighborhood Association, Villa Del Monte Neighborhood Association, and the Del Monte Grove/Laguna Grande Neighborhood Association.

The Casanova Oak Knoll Park Center is located at the corner of Ramona and Euclid Avenues and is the City of Monterey Recreation Department’s newest facility. In addition to their Preschool, Stay N Play, and Teen Drop-In programs, they offer programs and classes for all ages. The Center features a meeting/multi-purpose room, complete kitchen, Preschool, and a Teen Room with a pool table, foosball, air hockey, and Internet access. Casanova Oak Knoll Park is a 1.3-acre park offering a large turf area, half basketball court, play equipment, outdoor patio, and a newly renovated group barbecue area.

The North Fremont Business District includes lots of recreation choices from bowling, to dancing to a comedy/music venue. Visitors also enjoy the nearby Monterey County Fair & Event Center which hosts dozens of festivals and special events each year. There are 11 restaurants with a wide array of delicious dining choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The District features 17 hotels and motels, several with swimming pools and jacuzzis for true relaxation. For fitness, there’s In Shape Sport and Monterey Fit Body Boot Camp, as well as Big 5 Sporting Goods for all of the sports equipment you can use!

 

There are many shopping options from furniture, vinyl records, and a clothing/sun tanning boutique to Dollar Tree and CVS with so many essentials, too. There are several expert nail salons, hair salons and a barber, and a dry cleaner, too. The District also has a dentist, doctor, and optometrist for personal care.

The North Fremont Business District of Monterey is a volunteer driven organization, with the mission of preserving, revitalizing, and promoting The North Fremont Business District, through broad based community support and serving the needs of the local neighborhoods.

Vision: 

The North Fremont Business District of Monterey will work to create a physically attractive, thriving center for working, shopping and living. The North Fremont Business District will create an environment to enhance the economic vitality and quality of life for the community.

The North Fremont Business District Monterey was founded, among other tasks, to improve the visual appearance, safety, and ambience of the area through the use of streetscape improvements, curb appeal upgrades, accessibility, and safety. Our goals include

Promote improvement of landscaping and drive-by appearance

Coordinate a litter/graffiti removal program

Develop a comprehensive streetscape plan

Develop a comprehensive underground utilities plan to include sidewalk widening

Investigate speed reduction, traffic flow, and crosswalk improvements

Extend the WAVE to North Fremont Street

Promote the perception of safety and accessibility
